As the bears make their way out of hibernation, and the snowmelt begins to trickle out of the mountains, we hope that you, too, are appreciating the warmth on the breeze and the promise of summer. YERC has been hard at work this spring, and we are excited to share our accomplishments with you.
Montana State University Engineering Capstone Projects
YERC worked alongside three groups of hardworking seniors this academic year while they developed technologies that will revolutionize conservation research. This spring, they completed and presented their impressive prototypes.
Since 1970, nearly 30% of birds have disappeared; we are facing a major conservation emergency. Much of the conservation discussion around biodiversity loss focuses on extinctions, but population declines in still-common species are equally alarming.
Habitat connectivity is crucial to the survival and reproduction of many organisms in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. YERC is studying and advocating for effective land use practices to increase connectivity corridors.
We are excited to get started on our summer field season! Our summer technicians will be hard at work conducting bird surveys, and generating vegetation community composition maps.
