Professional Profile

Alan Swanson is biometrician who joined YERC in 2003. He developed an interest in quantitative ecology as an undergraduate, after spending several summers managing a lab and field crew at the H. J. Andrews experimental forest in the central cascades of Oregon. He is still involved in the analysis of data resulting from these studies. His research interests at YERC include analysis of spatio-temporal patterns in coyote territoriality, survival analysis, terrain calibration of synthetic aperture radar (SAR), and relating SAR attenuation to forest biomass. He is interested in spatio-temporal dynamic modeling and methods which take advantage of recent advances in computational capacity.
